Covid-19 Information

All Outback Camel Company cameleers, medical officers, drivers and support crew are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

We require all people joining us on our 2022 treks to also be fully vaccinated. Or you must show evidence of exemption. If you make a booking with us, when your final payment balance is due (90 days before departure) we will ask for proof of your vaccinations. This may be a screenshot of your digital vaccination certificate or a copy of your paper certificate.

It’s been a very difficult couple of years for our business: we didn’t operate at all in 2020 and in 2021 nearly our entire 5 month trekking schedule with Australian Desert Expeditions was thrown into chaos by multiple state border closures and other Covid-19 related issues.

So we completely understand that plans may change due to Covid-19 travel related issues. When you book with us you have the flexibility to change your travel plans if your trip is affected by Covid-19, with the assurance that you’ll have options to re-book on a future departure. If we must cancel your trek or expedition before departure due to Covid-19 issues, you can transfer your payment and deposit to another available trip in 2022 or hold your payment with us for a trek in 2023 with no change fees. We do not refund for any travel restriction associated with Covid-19 but provide a credit. Note that ‘fear of travelling’ is not a valid Covid related issue and our normal booking conditions would apply.
Obviously, we have no control over Covid hotspot declarations or border closures, and we will do our very best to rebook your trip as soon as humanly possible if your trip is affected by Covid related issues.

Outback Camel Company Covid-19 safety measures

The safety of you and our crew is and has always been our primary concern. We are constantly updating our procedures and response to Covid-19 based on the latest advice to ensure you have a safe trekking experience.

As all our 2022 treks operate in the Northern Territory, we will adhere to the current Northern Territory health directives. Note that these directives may affect your entry into the Northern Territory from interstate. Please be sure to check the current travel requirements from your state of departure.

Covid Safe Plan
Our crew are trained in our Covid safe plan which outlines measures taken should anyone (trekker or crew) show any Covid symptoms.

Each trek has been reviewed to ensure health and safety standards are met. All leaders and crew have been trained in Covid-19 safe protocols, including hygiene, sanitation, health screening and crisis management.

Face masks are available to use while travelling in vehicles. They are not mandatory.

Upon arrival at the camel camp on Day 1, our crew will provide a pre-departure Covid-19 safety briefing, including trek protocols and trekker and crew responsibilities to ensure everyone’s safety.
